St Kilda City JFC Committee Statement on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice referendum 2023
The St Kilda City JFC committee believes in the strength of coming together and acknowledging our diverse history. That's why we're sharing some information about the upcoming referendum on Constitution Alteration (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice) 2023, which seeks to bring positive change to our nation.
This proposed alteration seeks to:
1. Recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia.
2. Establish an advisory body known as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice, providing a platform for representation.
3. Enable the Voice to make representations to Parliament and the Executive on matters concerning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
4. Grant Parliament the authority to pass legislation regarding Voice-related matters.
If you're curious to learn more and understand the journey behind these changes, check out the detailed timeline and information on the Australian Parliament website.
As we continue to grow as a nation that values unity, understanding, and inclusivity, our club stands for supporting positive developments that shape Australia's future. That is why the committee of St Kilda City JFC proudly supports the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution through the Voice to Parliament.
